Hebie two legged kickstand revisited

I posted (click here for post) back at the beginning of the year about the Hebie two legged kickstand that I purchased to put on my Surly LHT. Previously I had been using a Pletscher two legged kickstand on my LHT.

After six months of heavy use, the Hebie is still as good as the day I bought it. The only maintenance I've undertaken is some lube on it's single joint for smoother operation. This was necessary due to the crud that had built up on it from commuting in the rain.

With the rubber I had used between the frame and the kickstand, the kickstand has never moved at all.

As you can see from the pic on the left, the stand has a wide stance, making the bike very stable, even with heavy touring loads.

The Hebie is strong, simple and is the best kickstand i've ever used. The Pletscher is good, but the Hebie is better.

Thanks for all the info about the stands!! It is not easy to make a choise when the manufactures are so bad at inform properly about thier product.
Strange I think.
Some more pictures and some more data - weight etc.
That´s all we need.
Have a great life!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the great information on the Hebie. I got a LHT this past Monday and would like to put a Hebie on it. I can't tell what width your current tires are, though. I'm running 50mm Schwalbe Marathon Supremes on the LHT. Is the Hebie wide enough to fit around them?

Also, have you had any problems with the front wheel turning when the bike is on the stand? I saw Hebie recommends a steering stabilizer, but I've not seen anyone using it.

Thanks for the info!

Hi Jon,

I'm running 40mm Schwalbe Marathon XRs, and there is ample clearance.

Whilst I haven't tried it, 50mm tyres should fit just fine.

I own a Surly LHT bicycle. I purchased a HEBIE bipod kickstand here awhile back. I found chain rub on onto the kickstand itself with certain gearing. I found this to not right, even though I found the HEBIE a great kickstand.

Has anyone else have this problem ?

I would sure like to know.

Kim,

I've only had mine on for a little over a week, but I've not had any problem with chain rub. I checked it after my ride today and it looks like there might be occasional hits when the chain is slack and the bike hits a bump, but that's it. No major marks or anything, just a little grease/scuffing. I went through the gears and checked: nothing rubs at all when the pedals are spun with the bike on workstand.

Did you use the optional plastic mounting plate? That moves the kickstand assembly down a tad. I also have a 3/16" piece of rubber between the plastic mounting plate and the frame.
