In the past, brooks saddle covers were quite flimsy, and not waterproof. This presents a problem when parking your bicycle out in the rain. You would need to carry a shower cap, or plastic bag to put on top of the cover, making the cover totally useless.
More recently, I've noticed that brooks saddles come with a much better, thicker cover which appears to be completely waterproof. Unfortunately it's no more waterproof than the original flimsy version. Don't bother upgrading, and just carry a plastic bag instead.
I always keep the cover rolled up, and attached to a saddle rail with the velcro strap supplied. Inside the cover, I put a plastic bag which I use in conjunction with the cover to ensure that the saddle is protected from rain. That way it is always available. If it looks even remotely like it might rain, i'll put the cover on. Leather and water generally don't mix. If your saddle does get wet, let it dry out naturally and don't ride it or tension it while it's wet if you can help it.

Thats interesting, I have Three Bikes now with Leather Brooks Saddles but only one Cover.
I got a B17 Brooks Champion Saddle lately for my Raleigh Long Distance Bike but they had no Covers in the Shop. It seems they do not always have these even though it is Indispensable for these Saddles. So I will have to cal in to see if them get them in stock.
When I got the Dutch Crossframe from Henrys Work Cycles in A/Dam about two Years ago I got a Cover with it but have not got any Covers since.
Apparently they put a Load of Saddle Covers on Bikes over there in the Netherlands Advertising Stuff but not unfortunately over here in Ireland.
But somebody put a Picture on Flicker of a Saddle Cover Advert in Dublin so Times are changing.
I have a Leather Brooks on the Brompton Folding Bike, The Dutch Bike, and now the Raleigh but only one Cover and it is getting a bit Moth Eaten and Crumpled.
The Selle Royal Italia Avenir Saddle on the Raleigh was just to Hard ,I had to get a Leather one far more Comfortable after being broke in. Even after getting it and using it for the first time on a Trip of 50 Miles it was more Comfortable than the Selle Italia.
