Following on from my previous post of my ultimate surly lht, it's time for an update. Like all things, there is never really an ultimate setup. There is always something that can be improved. Once again I think I have the ultimate setup, but I'm sure that will change again! :-) This post contains the changes since my previous post describing my ultimate setup.
Handlebar tapeI now have a brighter colour, and double layered. The extra layer makes the grip thicker and more comfortable. The bright colour makes my bike more noticable and unique.
Downtube shifters
I've converted to downtube shifters because they are simpler, more repairable, allow for friction use of the front derailer, and it makes it easier to change handlebars. Click here for details on how to convert your bike to downtube shifters, and the reasons why you may want to do so.
Front platform rackI've added a handmade front platform rack which still allows me to use the duo, but have a platform for carrying a handlebar bag on. This increases the stability of the bike when carrying weight at the front. It also increases my carrying capacity. The rack is made of steel of course.
Handlebar bag mount removed
With the front platform rack, the handlebar bag mount is redundant.
New seatBrooks B17 special edition with copper rivets in a gorgeous honey colour to replace my plain black one. Looks nice.
Pump location
I've changed the pump location to the downtube, alongside my water bottle holder. Doesn't get in the way as much this way.

Handlebar height
Lowered my stem by about 1.5cm. Personal fit reasons. Handlebars are about the same height as the saddle now.
Future changes
Change rear rack and front duo rack to handmade versions. I can make sturdier versions from solid steel compared to the tubus variety. They will be heavier, but I don't mind. I also want to add some custom features. More on that later.

Love your setup. Currently thinking to convert my LHT to butterfly bars, also. May I ask what brand and size stem you're using, please?
Thanks!
Hi Dylster,
the stem is a BBB, 30 degree rise, 90mm. 25.4mm clamp size.
cheers,
Daniel
Thanks again for the info. My LHT is complete...except for the Hebie stand, which I'll install this weekend. Would you still recommend the 3mm rubber pieces when installing?
